Lordy McGordy......

We went out for dinner last night and let me just say the toilets at the resturant were lovely and clean..... while I was sliming and seeing my beef stroganoff twice!

Sorry Nene, you were wrong, I think that finally I have good restriction and now have to be very, very careful. The pain was unbearable. I was standing in the loo jumping up and down and finally.... up she came.

I think it was the chewy meat in the dish that did it. This morning my band still feels really tight. Swelling maybe????

So in February we are off to Brisbane and maybe Melbourne for a little holiday. Work has been so hectic it's not funny. The build up to the silly season is always like that. To make matters worse I have to sack and employee on Monday. I am so not looking forward to it as she really is a lovely lady. She has been with us for quite a while and even though I have had to speak to her on numerous occasions she has not picked up her game. Sacking somebody is the worse job, especially when you like them as a person!

I haven't made it to the gym as of yet. I really need to pull my finger out and get to the job at hand! I have printed off a big 84 and stuck it on the fridge.

I WILL MAKE MY GOAL!!!!

PB'n

Monday, December 14, 2009

Well I had my second ever full on sorta PB experience! Had some chicken for lunch and as soon as I swallowed it I had a bad feeling. Thankfully I was at home. Poor Hubby was looking at me like I was weird. I was out in the front yard, crouched over doing my best to bring it back up when all of a sudden I let out this almighty burp. It was hilarious, or so my hubby thought. Nothing came back up but the relief was instant.

Great to know this band is working! I do get worried at times as so many people have such issues with food. I guess I am one of the lucky ones that can pretty much eat anything and not have an issue with it getting stuck. It does often leave me wondering if the band is actually working though.

So as Christmas day looms near I think we are the lucky ones here in Australia. With the hot weather we can induldge in summer fruits and cold salads and not be tempted by hot comfort foods. My Christmas Day plan is to spend the whole day in the pool or lazing by it. Each year a friend who we spend Christmas Day with brings me a very expensive bottle of Champers which I enjoy. I am paranoid about my band slipping with carbonated drinks, but think I will throw caution to the wind and indulge a little. The rest of the day will be lean ham, heaps of fruit and some salad. I always get a little down this time of year as we are so far from family and at this stage I still don't have a family of my own. Let's hope 2010 changes all that for me!

On a positive note I went shopping for some shorts and am now fitting comfortably into a size 16. Once they are 'worn in' I end up having to wear a belt with them. I have also purchased the size 14's and have them as my new goal.

Might be time for some more photos!

Back in the 80's

Saturday, December 12, 2009

So my weight has snuck back under the 90kg mark, just! 89.6kg to be exact. My last fill has given me excellent restriction and has really helped me to cut back on my portion sizes with no hunger between meals.

I have made an appointment to see my surgeon in January, but Hubby can't get month end off work. I will now put it off until mid February. That will give me an extra couple of weeks to get to my goal. I had set my goal to be 86kg, but really I would love to get down to 84kg. That would be a whopping 20kg lost in my first year. I am going to go hard and do my best.

I have downloaded a Couch to 5k program onto my phone. The program runs for 9 weeks which will have me finishing it on the 14th of February. What a great time to have a romantic weekend away and see my surgeon. Valentines Day!

I have done the C25K before and it really helped me to shed the kilos before my wedding. It's a great way of getting back into running which is something I use to LOVE doing.

If I stick with the program and finish it I am going to treat myself to a session with a running coach and a lovely pedicure/massage.

84 kilos here I come!!!

Having troubles uploading the John Daly segment. PLEASE how do I get from YouTube to blogger????????

Portion Distortion!

How many of us suffer with this?

So I had a fill yesterday. Stuck to my fluids for the rest of the day and today started on mushies and then solids. We went for our buffet tonight and I left the table feeling like I had eaten waaaaay too much. I felt full.

Then I had to look hard at what I had eaten.....

2 scoops of rice (1/2 cup) along with approx 1 tablespoon of each dish. I would have been lucky to have eaten a cup of food. Because it was spread out on a huge plate I felt like I had gone completely overboard. WORSE STILL.... I FELT GUILTY!

How silly!

A brand new day!

Today feels like that time when you haven't had rain for ages and when it finally happens everything feels fresh and new. A clean slate!

Dr J (my fill doctor) decided to up the ante a bit and gave me a whopping 2mls for my fill. I can definatly feel restriction but we will wait and see if its too much. I now have around 3.4-3.5ml in my 4ml band. I will make my chicken salad for lunch and see how I go. Hubby wants to go to a buffet tonight but I've told him I will see how I go after lunch. I know that it will be a waste to pay $25 considering with the fill I'll be lucky to eat a small plate.

So my official restart weight is 91kg (yikes) I have just over 8 weeks before I see my surgeon and I'm going to do my best to smash 5kg off this body. Hubby and I have decided to go away for the weekend while I am in Brisbane seeing the surgeon. I was thinking a nice weekend in Maleny or maybe even on the Sunshine Coast!

For anyone that missed Sunrise this morning they had a story on John Daly and his lap band weight loss. He has lost apparently 50 kilos in the past year!

I taped the quick segment and am uploading it to youtube. I'll post on here once it's done.

Thankis Hawaii,

for the shout out regarding my comment section not working. All fixed!

Chicken & Avo Cous Cous

This is one of my favourite lunches. The original recipe came from Band Camp and I have adapted it to suit.

1/2 to 1 Shallot chopped finely
Portion of chicken breast
1/4 - 1/2 an avocado diced
1 tablespoon of dried cous cous
Whole egg mayo (I use Neil Perry's fresh mayo from the fruit and veg section of Woolies)
Salt and pepper

Place cous cous in a container and add 1.5 tablespoons of water (if you want more just add 1.5 times water to the portion of cous cous)

Boil chicken breast in water. Add any herbs that you like (I generally use dill and a couple of bay leaves). Boil until cooked through. I know this probably sound gross, but it is great. The chicken stays moist and tender and it helps to get rid of some of the fat. I also keep the water to use in soups.

Once chicken is cooked through dice into small pieces.
Finely chop the shallots and avocado and place in your serving bowl along with the cous cous.
Add mayo a little bit at a time until you get a nice salad consistency.
Season to taste.

Enjoy!!

Bugger...

Went in for my fill and my GP was called to the hospital for emergency surgery! They tried to fob me off until next week but I managed to sweet talk them into an appointment for 12.15pm! Thankyajesus!

A fresh start.

I remember a friend of mine who was successful (and still is) on Weight Watchers was discussing the key to her success.

Everytime I fall over (have a 'bad' day), I pick myself up, dust myself off and start fresh. Leave the guilt behind.

This is exactly the mantra I will be following. We beat ourselves into a pulp and then wonder why we are stuggling with the weight. My honeymoon period with the band is definatly over. Now it's time for some good old fashioned hard work. However in saying hard work, I know my job is made much easier because of the band.

Even though very few people know that I've had the band done, I must say that I am ferociously protective of it and what it stands for. Anyone else out there feel the same? How many people miss out on this opportunity and stay overweight because of something negative and completely silly that they have heard? Here was my latest eye rolling experience......

I was flicking on the TV on the weekend and there was a program The Diet Doctors on channel YOU. Just as I tuned in they began to talk about gastric banding and how it ruined this ladies life. Interested I stayed on the channel to listen to the story. It went on to show a lady who had the band done, had it tightened to it's full capacity and is now upset that she has to live on mushie food for the rest of her life!!! I am trying in earnest to try and find out when it's on again to tape it to make sure that I did hear correctly that she had it tightened to it's full capacity.

I just sat there and thought......HOW RIDICULOUS.

I had better go and get showered for my fill. I'll be back afterwards with a recipe for a fantastic lunch I made yesterday.

Time to get real.....

I HAVE BEEN CHEATING WITH MY LAPBAND!

Phew!

There, it has been said. I've admitted it. Now it's time to build a bridge and get over it!

I did have a public journal at the beginning of this journey which I made private as I was worried about being 'found out'. I have realised that I need the support that I was getting when I had this journal public. I really do not have a support network locally as only a couple of people in my town know I've had the band done.

I have had my band now for 10 months. Yes I have lost weight, but I am not using my band to it's full advantage.

My heaviest weight was 109kg. I was 104kg when I was banded. My lowest weight with the band has been 86kg and at the moment I am hovering around 91kg.

Over the past couple of months and especially while I have been away on holidays I have returned to some old habits. I have been drinking during meals and snacking on the wrong types of food and alcohol has well and truly slipped back into my daily routine.

The band is just a tool that is there to help us. If we don't follow the rules, it doesn't work!

So I have booked in for a fill tomorrow morning with my local GP. Even when I don't drink during meals I don't have much restriction so a good fill will help with that. I have also booked an appointment on my one year bandiversary with my surgeon Dr Blair Bowden. This gives me just over 8 weeks to get my butt into gear on the exercise and eating front.

I am going to join my local gym tomorrow and make sure I schedule my workouts into my work appointment book. They run circuit and boxing classes which totally kick your butt. I will make sure that I do not allow appointments with clients to clash with the scheduled times of the classes. I am going to get the timetable today on my way to work and mark the times out of my diary. NO IFS, BUTS OR MAYBES! 2010 is going to be the year of ME!

It's time for me to get strong. I put others first, especially in my work. Often I will book appointments during my lunch break, after hours and on my days off. I put clients before my husband and my marriage and even worse, before my health. WELL NO MORE! This is going to be one of the hardest things to do, but I have to do it. I have let my work rule me for the past three years, now it's time for me to rule my work.

I have been given such a great opportunity with the lapband. I look back over past journal entries and it has given my strength like I have never had before. THE BAND WORKS! I just need to make sure I am following the rules, and follow the rules I will!
